Founded in 1993, the Consortium is a non-profit,
non-partisan organization headquartered in Washington, D. C.
Its mission is to advance the legal and civil rights of the
nation's approximately 8.8 million Asian Pacific Americans.
The Consortium and its three regionally based affiliates; San
Francisco, New York City, and Los Angeles collectively have
more than 50 years of experience in providing legal services,
community education, and advocacy on a number of issues.
On October 6, 2005, NAPALC changed its name to the Asian
American Justice Center (AAJC). AAJC is considered one of the
nation's leading experts on issues of affecting Asian
American community and one that offers a Pan-Asian
perspective on issues such as hate crimes and race relations,
affirmative action, immigration and immigrant rights,
language access, census and voting rights.
Karen
Narasaki
A graduate of Yale and the UCLA School of Law Ms. Narasaki is
the Executive Director of the National Asian Pacific American
Legal Consortium. Before joining the Consortium she was the
Washington, D.C. representative for the Japanese American
Citizens League (JACL). She directed JACL's national advocacy
program and served on the Executive Committee of the
Leadership Conference on Civil Rights. She worked as a
corporate attorney at Perkins Cole in Seattle, Washington and
began her career as a law clerk to Judge Harry Pregerson on
the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in
Los Angeles. She has served on the boards of the National
Asian Pacific American Bar Association, the Asian Bar
Association of Washington, the Asian Pacific American Legal
Center of Southern California, and the Organization of Pan
Asian American Women.
